§ Mr. Kaufman10,209 staff are currently in post. Some of the work on which they are engaged is new; some derives from responsibilities previously held by other Departments, whose functions included activities no longer the direct responsibility of any Government Department. It is not possible to determine the corresponding numbers of staff involved in 1964.
