§ Mr. Robert SheldonThe amount of VAT collected by Customs and Excise from addresses in Wales is about £30 million a year. However, VAT, is charged at all stages of production and distribution and for businesses with branches in more than one part of the country frequently paid by a central office. It is estimated that VAT borne by residents of Wales in the financial year 1974–75 was about £105 million.
The only estimate of the cost of collecting VAT is for the United Kingdom as a whole. It was about 2p per pound of revenue in 1974–75.
