§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will introduce proposals to provide a structure whereby differential reflation may be stimulated to correspond with the varying economic conditions in various parts of the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. Joel BarnettIt is impossible to ensure that the impact of economic measures in the United Kingdom is confined strictly within a given area, but the Government are already able to stimulate economic activity in the assisted areas through regional development grants, regional employment premium, assistance under section 7 of the 1972 Industry Act and the major contributions to be made by the National Enterprise Board and the Welsh and Scottish Development Agencies. It remains a prime economic objective of the Government to wipe out the unjust and wasteful disparities between different parts of the country.
