HC Deb 26 November 1975 vol 901 c212W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will introduce proposals to provide a structure whereby differential reflation may be stimulated to correspond with the varying economic conditions in various parts of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Joel Barnett

It is impossible to ensure that the impact of economic measures in the United Kingdom is confined strictly within a given area, but the Government are already able to stimulate economic activity in the assisted areas through regional development grants, regional employment premium, assistance under section 7 of the 1972 Industry Act and the major contributions to be made by the National Enterprise Board and the Welsh and Scottish Development Agencies. It remains a prime economic objective of the Government to wipe out the unjust and wasteful disparities between different parts of the country.
