HC Deb 26 November 1975 vol 901 cc216-7W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland which LEAs in Scotland have declined their allocation for nursery schools and classes; which have built nursery education accommodation but are now unwilling or unable to pay nursery teachers and nursery nurses to staff it; which have decided to close down the nursery education accommodation; and how many redundancies among nursery teachers and nursery nurses have resulted from this action.

Mr. William Ross

On each point, none to my knowledge.

Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of tSate for Scotland how much money has been made available for nursery education in Scotland for 1976–77; and how many places this will provide.

Mr. William Ross

Education authorities have been authorised to start nursery education building work to the value of £6.9 million at 1974 survey prices in the period of 12 months to 30th September 1976, and I estimate that this programme could provide up to 9,000 places. The level of investment after that date is under review.
