HC Deb 26 November 1975 vol 901 c210W
Sir G. Sinclair

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many female medical students occupy places in the medical schools at the present time and how many did so 10 years ago, respectively; and how these numbers compare with those of male medical students over the same period.

Mr. Mulley

The numbers of full-time students at medical schools in Great Britain in 1973–74, the latest year for which figures are available, and 1965–66 were:

Men Women Total
1973–74 12,198 5,091 17,299
1965–66 11,008 3,430 14,438
The figures for 1965–66 are estimated from the known proportions of men and women in the preceding year.
