HC Deb 26 November 1975 vol 901 cc192-3W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what were Concorde's original design objectives for noise; and whether these have been met during the proving flights.

Mr. Kaufman

The noise objectives, based on an ICAO resolution of 1962, were that the levels should be comparable with those of subsonic jet aircraft, such as the Boeing 707, which were then in service. The results of the Casablanca noise trials given in the answer by my right hon. Friend on 28th October indicate that the objectives have been fulfilled. Unlike the Casablanca trials, the measurements at Heathrow were not made under controlled conditions under procedures analogous to International Civil Aviation techniques contained in Annex 16 of the Chicago Convention. The results do not, therefore, lend themselves to a straight comparison with the design objectives.
