Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northerin Ireland if he will publish a list of the recognised orphanages and other establishments in Northern Ireland in which orphaned children, retarded adults and juvenile delinquents are kept, and the amounts of money paid to each such establishment, in total and the rate per head for children, young persons and adults in each case.

Mr. Moyle

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 24th November 1975; Vol 901, c. 82], gave the following information:

There are no orphanages in Northern Ireland, but listed below are children's homes and hostels operated by health and social services boards and voluntary organisations, which provide care for children and young people, some of whom may be orphans:

Northern Area Board

  • Knockfergus Children's Home, Carrickfergus.
  • Conway Children's Home, Islandmagee.
  • Firmount Hostel, Greystone.
  • Dhu Varren Children's Home, Portrush.
  • Bawnmore Children's Home, Belfast.
  • Family Group Home, Mournebeg Drive, Newtownabbey.
