§ Mr. McCuskerasked the Secretary of State for Defence how many UDR men have been murdered in County Armagh since the Regiment's inception; and how many regular soldiers have been murdered in County Armagh since 1969.

§ Mr. McCuskerasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will outline in detail the appeals procedure to the Defence Council which is open to a discharged member of the UDR.
§ Mr. JohnUnder the regulations, a discharged member of the UDR who desires to appeal to the Defence Council should forward his appeal through the appropriate channel. This would normally be to his former commanding officer in the first instance, who would forward the appeal through his headquarters to the Ministry of Defence. The decision of the Defence Council is conveyed personally to the applicant in writing. The decision of the Defence Council is final.
§ Mr. McCuskerasked the Secretary of State for Defence how many of the 82 members of the UDR from 2 and 11 UDR Battalions who were discharged during the period 1st January 1975 and 31st October 1975 without tendering their resignations were told the reasons for their discharge.
§ Mr. JohnThe regulations provide a number of specific causes of discharge. All were informed of the cause in accordance with these regulations. It is not possible to give details of any further information which may have been given by the commanding officer in any particular case.
