HC Deb 12 November 1975 vol 899 cc836-7W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many shooting incidents have been reported in County Armagh between 1st January 1975 and 31st October 1975; how many involved the security forces; how many people have been arrested in connection with these crimes; and how many charged.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The number of shooting incidents in police divisions H, J and K which include the whole of County Armagh and parts of Counties Down and Tyrone between 1st January 1975 and 31st October 1975 were as follows:

Police Division Total Number involving the Security Forces
H 180 100
J 58 35
K 80 46

It would require disproportionate time and effort to identify which arrests and charges resulted from these incidents. However, the total number of persons charged with Firearms Act offences in these divisions over the period was 28 and with murder and attempted murder 11 and 10 respectively.

Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) How many policemen, UDR personnel, Regular Army personnel, civilians and terrorists have been killed in County Armagh between 1st January 1975 and 31st October 1975; how many people have been arrested in connection with these crimes; and how many charged; (2) How many bombs exploded in County Armagh between 1st January 1975 and 31st October 1975; how many people have been arrested in connection with these crimes; and how many have been charged.
