asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the total number of places at special schools for the educationally sub-normal; and if he will express the number per 10,000 pupils in England, in each region and in each local education authority.

In January 1975 the number of pupils in special schools for the educationally sub-normal in England was 85,877. Since most schools were considered to be full, this can be taken as
