HC Deb 12 November 1975 vol 899 cc698-9W
Mr. Fairbairn

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, with reference to answer to Written Question on 4th November 1975, which explains that 120 limes were purchased for New Palace Yard at a cost of £600 from the Rosalinda Rose Gardens and that 82 have been planted and 38 held in reserve, why his Department ordered 38 more trees than were needed; and what is to happen to the trees held in reserve now that it has been decided to uproot the original 82.

Mr. Armstrong

In any major landscaping work, more stock is ordered than will actually be planted, to ensure adequate reserves in case of failure. The surplus stock is grown on in the Department's nursery, and is used elsewhere if not needed to provide replacements.
