HC Deb 12 November 1975 vol 899 cc803-4W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many of those patients in hospitals for the mentally ill have previously been charged with begging, sleeping out, vagrancy and drunkenness.

Mr. Meacher

Information in the form requested is not available, but I am sending to my hon. Friend some information which he may find helpful.

Although we do not collect statistics on the previous addresses of patients admitted to mental hospitals, in 1971 we made a special computer run to extract the number of mental hospital patients admitted from "no fixed abode" and it was found that 2, 312 males and 910 females had been so admitted.
