HC Deb 12 November 1975 vol 899 cc750-1W
Mr. Hayhoe

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many staff and in what categories have been recruited to his Department since March 1974; and what has been the net change in the total staff employed.

Mr. Booth

The numbers of staff employed in my Department at 1st April 1974 after deducting the estimated numbers employed on functions subsequently transferred to the Manpower Services Commission, Employment Service Agency, Health and Safety Executive and the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service are shown below together with the comparable figures for 1st October 1975.

In addition, 4,231 casual staff were employed on 1st October 1975 mainly on unemployment benefit work in local offices. It is estimated that on 1st April 1974 some 1,050 casual staff were employed in my Department. It is regretted that comprehensive records of all staff recruited during this period are not available.
