HC Deb 11 November 1975 vol 899 cc598-9W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what representations she has received about dangers created for young children by toy umbrellas imported from Hong Kong; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Alan Williams

I have received the hon. Member's representations on behalf of a constituent about a toy umbrella. The information he has sent me does not indicate whether the toy was imported from Hong Kong.

The Toys (Safety) Regulations 1974 prescribe a number of safety requirements, including provisions relating to sharp points and edges. Any suspected contravention should be reported immediately to the local weights and measures authority responsible for enforcement.
