HL Deb 11 November 1975 vol 365 cc1787-8WA
Lord SWANSEA

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What progress is being made with the extension of the M4 Westwards from Newport.

The LORD CHANCELLOR

The Port Talbot and Morriston by-passes are open to traffic. The Tredegar Park to St. Mellons section, the Coryton/Miskin/ Pencoed sections, the Pyle by-pass and the Pontardulais by-pass arc now under construction. This is a record total of 30 miles of motorway under construction in Wales. The routes of the section from Castleton to Coryton and the Bridgend Northern by-pass have been fixed. Preparation of the remaining section, between the Morriston and Port Talbot by-passes is at a relatively early stage-—but a dual two lane carriageway is already in existence.
