§ Mr. Eyreasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if the Government's income policy permits payment of increments on salary scales to local government officers in addition to the £6 per week increase in salary already permitted.
§ Mr. John SilkinSuch payments would be consistent with the Government's incomes policy if the incremental and wage-for-age payments are made according to a well defined range or scale already in operation before 11th July 1975; the payments, together with any annual pay increase, do not raise the pay bill of the group concerned by more than £6 a head; and the officers concerned are earning less than £8,500 per annum.
