The total costs of the Inland Revenue, including supplementary services rendered by other Departments, amounted to £211,398,000 in 1973–74, and are estimated at £385,047,000 for 1975–76. The number of staff employed at the beginning of 1973–74 totalled 75,940, including the full-time equivalent of casual staff, and, at the beginning of 1975–76, 80,419.

The total costs of Her Majesty's Customs and Excise amounted to £84,471,000 in 1973–74 and are estimated at £176,000,000 for 1975–76. The number of staff employed at the beginning of 1973–74 totalled 23,464, and, at the beginning of 1975–76, 28,485.
