Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will detail in percentage terms the total of price rises in every one of the nationalised industries with which his Department was concerned during the past 12 months.

Mr. Kaufman

There was an average 20 per cent. rise in the prices of the British Steel Corporation's Treaty of Paris products on 2nd January 1975. BSC made price increases and also introduced price rebates on selected products in June 1975, and made further price increases on selected products of between 5 per cent. and 8.5 per cent. on 26th October 1985. Full details are given in the Corporation's price lists.

Following is the information for the Post Office—all increases are weighted averages:

Telecommunications (28th April–1st May 1975) +35 per cent.

Telecommunications (1st October 1975) +33 per cent.

Posts (17th March 1975) +47 per cent.

Posts (29th September 1975) +22.5 per cent.
