Mr. Cyril Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will publish in the Official Report the number of nations which have accepted the 1972 Collision Regulations and those nations which have so far not accepted those regulations.

The Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organisation is the depositary power for the Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972, and it is understood that the following States, in addition to the United Kingdom, have signed and ratified, accepted, approved or acceded to the Convention:

Brazil. Bulgaria, Canada. Denmark, France, German Democratic Republic, Ghana, Greece, Iceland, India, Liberia, Nigeria, Norway, Romania, Spain, Sweden, USSR.

The following States have signed the Convention, subject to ratification or acceptance:

Belgium, Cambodia, Federal Republic of Germany, Finland, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Kuwait, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Switzerland, USA.

It is understood that the following States have indicated an intention of acceding to the Regulations: Argentina, Israel, Pakistan, Syria.
