HC Deb 10 November 1975 vol 899 cc416-7W
Mr. Wells

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the expenditure on the Maidstone-Tonbridge A26 trunk road by his Department and by local authorities, respectively, in the financial year 1974–75 and the estimated expenditure in the current year.

Dr. Gilbert

The Maidstone-Tonbridge A26 scheme, which is a principal road scheme, was accepted by the Secretary of State for grant purposes under Section 235(1) of the Highways Act 1959. In 1974–75 the Department paid £7,899 in grant and the local highway authority £2,633.

With the bringing to an end of such specific grants by the Local Government Act 1974 and their replacement from 1st April 1975 by the transport supplementary grant £115,000 was included in respect of this scheme in the total of estimated expenditure accepted by my right hon. Friend for purposes of transport supplementary grant payable to Kent County Council in 1975–76.
