§ Mr. Gowasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list in the Official Report all grants and loans made under Section 56 of the Transport Act 1968, since the coming into operation of that Act.
§ Mr. CarmichaelThe following table lists the schemes over £1 million on which grants have been made under Section 56 of the Transport Act 1968 since its coming into force on 1st October 1968. Details of the numerous schemes costing under £1 million are not readily available.
Payments on major capital projects are normally spread over a number of years. Outstanding payments under most of the grants have now been absorbed into either the transport supplementary grant, which was introduced on 1st April 1975, or into the compensation paid to the Railways Board under Section 3(1) of the Railways Act 1974 which came into effect on 1st January 1975. Payments under Section 56 have been continued only on those schemes in the table being carried out by the Railways Board on behalf of a passenger transport executive, and by new town development corporations.
