HC Deb 04 November 1975 vol 899 cc115-6W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what steps his Department is taking to ensure that housing development is not undertaken within a reasonably safe distance of a stone quarry operation.

Mr. Oakes

I have been asked to reply.

The following table gives an occupational analysis of all unemployed males registered at employment offices, in the areas shown on 8th September 1975, and whose last job was in construction.

This is a matter proper to local consideration as conditions may vary widely from case to case and the Secretary of State has issued no specific advice. In considering the issue of planning permission for housing development local planning authorities may take any material consideration into account and I have no doubt that danger from stone quarrying operations may be amongst these.
