HC Deb 04 November 1975 vol 899 c103W
56. Mr. Sainsbury

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she will consider the proposal put forward by the Campaign for the Mentally Handicapped, MIND, and the Spastics Society, that there should be a valuation of all buildings and land ancillary to mental illness and mental handicap hospitals to ascertain how development can proceed to yield maximum profits for the consequent benefit of patients in these establishments.

Dr. Owen

We are considering these interesting proposals for the use of hospital land as a potential resource particularly in relation to mental illness and mental handicap. A formal valuation of all land and buildings is not really necessary for this purpose and would not justify the effort and expense involved.
