HC Deb 04 November 1975 vol 899 c129W
Sir John Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what information he has on the effectiveness of the Government advertising campaign urging the public to put 3 in. insulation in their roofs and on hot water cylinders.

Mr. Eadie

My Department has organised extensive research into the effectiveness of the "Save It" campaign, includingAttitude surveys, including recall of advertising and surveys of people's intentions to install home insulation. Subscribing to Audits of Great Britain Ltd. home audit of purchasers of insulation material. Survey of distribution and sales of home insulation materials in hardware and Do-It-Yourself shops and builders' merchants. Regular reports on production levels from the main loft insulation material suppliers and the Insulating Jacket Manufacturers Federation.

Research into the production and acquisition of loft and tank insulation materials shows significant increases in manufacturing output and retail sales of 3 in. insulation materials.

My officials have persuaded the Insulating Jacket Manufacturers Federation to produce only 3 in. cylinder jackets from 1st August 1975.

The whole advertising campaign will continue to be monitored.
