§ Mr. Carter-Jonesasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether the delay in the development of the Long Street area of Swinton has been caused by any hold up in his Department; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. FreesonDiscussions have been held with the Department about the council's proposals for the Long Street general improvement area in Swinton. These have been about the environmental improvement scheme and also about the small new housing scheme proposed for the area. To date no formal application has been made to the Department about either part of the overall scheme. I am satisfied that the Department has not caused any delays which might have occurred, and I am advised that works are expected to start on site very shortly.
