HC Deb 03 November 1975 vol 899 c5W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps have been and are being taken to ensure the free movement of capital between Great Britain and other members of the EEC since 1st January 1973; and what commitments to further action in this regard have been entered into by Her Majesty's Government.

Mr. Dell

As I explained in my reply to the hon. Member for Blaby (Mr. Lawson) on 17th October—[Vol. 897, c. 835]—the retention of existing exchange control restrictions on capital movements has been authorised in view of our balance of payments difficulties. No date has been decided for the removal of these restrictions.

On the second point, no commitments have been undertaken in this regard beyond those in the Treaty of Accession.
