§ Mr. Ralph Howellasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what level of unemployment is assumed for 1975–76 for national insurance purposes.
§ Mr. O'MalleyFor his report on the Social Security Benefits Bill, 1974 (Cmnd. 5788) the Government Actuary 657W based his estimates on the illustrative assumption that the average number of unemployed, excluding school leavers and adult students, would be 650,000, with the qualification that a change of 100,000 would alter the balance of income and outgo by £ 105 million. The Government Actuary will shortly be issuing a further report covering 1975–76, in connection with the uprating promised for later this year.
