§ Dr. OwenAt 31st March 1974, the most recent date for which figures are available, 85,000 children in England were in the care of registered persons; of these, 57,000 were receiving all-day care and 28,000 sessional care. It is not possible to make an informed estimate of the total number of children being cared for by unregistered minders.
