HC Deb 22 May 1975 vol 892 c617W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will make a statement on the opposition of the EEC Commissioners to import control of textile garments and yarn into this country.

Mr. Deakins

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 19th May 1975; Vol. 892, c. 254], gave the following information:

The Commission did earlier in the year ask us, against the background of the obligations towards the developing countries under the international Multi-fibre Arrangement, to consider phasing out certain restrictions at a faster rate than we were prepared to agree to. But in general they have not opposed the import controls which we maintain on textile garments and yarn.
