HC Deb 21 May 1975 vol 892 c433W
Mr. Woof

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what EEC levies or import duties have been placed on dairy products from Commonwealth countries, respectively; and what are the costs per ton.

Mr. Peart

Under the terms of Protocol 18 to the Act of Accession United Kingdom imports of New Zealand butter and cheese are subject to special rates of levy, currently £164.91 per ton for butter and £281.69 per ton for cheese. As from 1st April 1975 mature Canadian cheddar cheese meeting certain specific requirements may be imported into the United Kingdom free of levy. United Kingdom imports of butter and cheese from other non-Community countries are currently subject to levies of £403.38 per ton for butter—80 per cent.; and £480.64 per ton for cheese.
