§ Mr. Jim Marshallasked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total number of employees, and how many are estimated to be on short-time, in the hosiery and knitting industry in the East Midlands.
§ Mr. John FraserIn June 1973 the number of employees in employment in 301W the East Midlands Region in hosiery and other knitted goods, minimum list heading 417 of the Standard Industrial Classification, was 76,900. A special inquiry earlier this month estimated that in the East Midlands Region 4,000 employees in this sector of the industry were on short-time working during the week commencing 5th May 1975.

(2) how many employees have been made redundant in the hosiery and knitting industry in the East Midlands.
§ Mr. John FraserI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that during the period 1st January to 12th May 1975 redundancies involving some 950 people were recorded in the hosiery and knitting industry in the East Midlands standard region and seven establishments were recorded as having closed down.
