§ Mr. Simsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons appearing before the courts in 198W 1973 and 1974 were found to be illegal immigrants in how many of these cases were deportation orders made and carried out in how many of such cases was a sentence of imprisonment imposed and served before deportation was effected and what was the average length of sentence served.
§ Mr. Alexander W. LyonI regret that this information is not available. But in general illegal immigrants are not charged with an offence and brought before a court, with a view to formal deportation, but are removed from the country by the exercise of the appropriate statutory power. In 1973 and 1974, respectively, 167 and 135 illegal immigrants were so removed.
