§ Mr. Knoxasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he is satisfied that the Antarctica Treaty is still valid in the light of exploitation activities being undertaken in the area by some of the signatories of this treaty.
§ Miss Joan LestorYes. As regards mineral resources, no exploitation is being carried out in the Antarctic Treaty Area at the present time. In connection with fishing, the Antarctic Treaty does not prejudice or in any way affect the right of States to fish within the area of high seas south of 60 degrees south latitude.
