§ Mr. MoyleVoluntary maintained primary schools and secondary schools—other than grammar schools—have since 1968 been treated as regards maintenance and aid in the same way as corresponding schools in England and Wales. Voluntary non-maintained primary and secondary schools, that is, those which do not have public representation on their management committees, receive grant at the rate of 65 per cent. from the Education and Library Boards on approved expenditure on maintenance, and from the Northern Ireland Department of Education on capital expenditure and on the provision of equipment.
Voluntary grammar schools do not, in general receive any aid from the boards, though there is provision in the Education and Libraries (Northern Ireland) Order 1972 for this to be given in cases where the grammar school has entered into an agreement with the board. Voluntary grammar schools receive grants from the Northern Ireland Department of Education towards running costs and can receive capital grants at rates depending upon their classification.
