HC Deb 13 May 1975 vol 892 cc98-9W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what has been the cost of repairing damage to school buildings as a result of arson or vandalism on Merseyside over the last three years.

Mr. Armstrong

The Department does not have information about the annual cost of wilful destruction of school property. The five authorities concerned estimate that for 1974–75 the cost of repairing damage to their school buildings caused by arson was about £290,000 and for other vandalism about £250,000. Total figures for earlier years are not available.
