HC Deb 09 May 1975 vol 891 cc546-7W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in how many cases before the Court of Justice of the European Communities Her Majesty's Government have been a party; and what was the subject matter of each case in which the court decided against Her Majesty's Government.

Mr. Hattersley

The United Kingdom has not been a party in any cases before the European Court. In seven instances it has submitted observations on requests submitted by national courts for rulings on points of interpretation arising in domestic actions. One such request was made by a United Kingdom court—Van Duynv. the Home Office; the European Court then ruled in favour of the Home Office.
