HC Deb 05 May 1975 vol 891 c365W
Mr. Canavan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will intro-due a special subsidy for students' housing in Scotland, particularly in university-owned property like the accommodation units at Stirling University, where students pay £5.64 per week rental, without meals.

Mr. William Ross

No. Housing subsidies are available to public authorities to help them to meet the range of housing needs in their areas and I see no need to introduce a new form of subsidy to assist with the housing of a particular group. Assistance from public funds for the board and lodging costs of students is already given through the system of students' awards.
