HC Deb 05 May 1975 vol 891 c338W
Mr. Wellbeloved

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the net United Kingdom contribution to the budget of the European Communities in 1974–75.

Mr. Joel Barnett

In the United Kingdom financial year 1974–75, on the basis of provisional outturn figures, the United Kingdom's receipts from the community budget were approximately £35 million more than our contributions. This compares with an estimate in the White Paper "Public Expenditure to 1978–79" (Cmnd. 5879) of a net United Kingdom contribution in that period of £35 million. Receipts under the common agricultural policy (CAP) in the period November 1974-March 1975 were higher than originally estimated.
