HC Deb 01 May 1975 vol 891 cc228-9W
Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what advice he has sought from the Institute of Fuel on its proposals for a more rational use of energy.

Mr. Eadie

My Department is aware of the proposals of the Institute of Fuel for a more rational use of energy and will seek its advice as necessary, but would normally do so in the first instance through my Advisory Council for Energy Conservation, which has included the Institute of Fuel in its programme of consultation.

Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what financial assistance has been made available to the Institute of Fuel for its programme of meetings, courses and seminars on practical advice and information to industry on energy conservation.

Mr. Eadie

The Institute of Fuel has sought our financial assistance for five such events in 1975 and we are underwriting them against possible loss by up to £750 for each within a total of £2,500.

Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what action he has taken on the recommendations on energy conservation contained in the document "Energy for the Future", published in July 1973 by the Institute of Fuel.

Mr. Eadie

All the recommendations in "Energy for the Future" by the Institute of Fuel, together with many others received, have been considered by my Department and action is in hand on many, such as increased control over North Sea resources and their depletion, increased opportunities for coal and nuclear power, improved generation efficiency by the CEGB, combined heat and power schemes and studies on the more efficient use of energy in various sectors.
