HL Deb 27 March 1975 vol 358 c1338WA
Lord HYLTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What action they are taking to implement the recommendations on housing of the Finer Committee on one-parent families, particularly Recommendations 132, 140, 142 to 153 and 162 to 165; and whether they agree that these Recommendations are non-controversial and do not require legislation.

Baroness BIRK

Recommendations 142 to 145 and 147 coincide with advice given to local authorities in the joint circular on Homelessness (DOE 18/74). The other recommendations concerning local authority responsibilities largely represent what is already the best practice and are generally in line with advice given by successive Governments. On this basis the Government would not regard them as controversial: nor, in our view, do they require further legislation. We shall consult the local authority associations and others on the various housing recommendations before deciding on further action.

House adjourned for the Easter Recess at ten minutes past one o'clock.
