HL Deb 27 March 1975 vol 358 c1336WA
The Earl of DUNDONALD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (a) how a figure of 50 per cent, of the general service charge has been arived at for payment this year on properties not connected to main drainage, and
  2. (b) what proportion of this 50 per cent. general service charge is attributable solely to sewerage and sewage disposal for properties not connected to main drainage.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE, DEPARTMENT of the ENVIRONMENT (Baroness Birk)

(a) Domestic properties not connected to mains drainage will pay only 50 per cent. of the general services charge in 1975–76. The choice of this figure reflects the fact that all members of the community, whether or not their properties are connected to mains drainage benefit from the existence of adequate sewerage and sewage disposal facilities as well as from the other services, such as surface water drainage and pollution control, covered by the general services charge.

(b) It is not possible to separate the individual costs of all these services.
