§ Mr. Stanleyasked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will list the discretionary powers vested in him (a) to provide financial or non-financial assistance in any form to industrial or commercial undertakings and (b) to permit the physical or material development of such undertakings, indicating in each case the legislation under which those powers may be exercised.

§ Mr. Clinton DavisExcluding powers in respect of nationalised industries, assistance to industrial or commercial undertakings is given by the Department of Trade under the following specific legislation:
Development of Tourism Act (1969).
Cinematograph Film Production (Special Loans) Acts, 1949–1970.
Under legislation for which ECGD is responsible my right hon. Friend has powers to make arrangements:
- (a) in connection with export credit guarantees and facilitating payments under export contracts, and to make grants in relation to export contracts under the Export Guarantees Acts 1968 and 1970 and
- (b) to insure investments overseas under the Overseas Investment and Export Guarantees Act 1972.
