HC Deb 26 March 1975 vol 889 cc193-4W
Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she can now make a statement on the proposed sale of land at Cheadle, owned by the North-West Regional Health Authority on behalf of her Department, in view of the intention by the proposed purchasers to build a private hospital on the site.

Dr. Owen

29.6 acres of land at Wilmslow Road, Cheadle, are no longer needed for National Health Service purposes. The regional health authority invited the former owners of the major portion of the land to say whether they were interested in purchasing it back, but they expressed no interest. The Stockport Metropolitan County District Council has now been asked whether it has any interest in the land for personal social service functions and its response is awaited. If it has no interest the next step will be to offer the land to other Government Departments and to the local authorities for any of its public functions. In the event of there being no further need by a Crown or public authority, the district valuer's advice will be sought on the best method of disposal in the open market having regard to any known interests.
