§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Secretary of State for Industry what information he has about the number of new jobs created in Great Britain as a direct result of investment from the EEC since Great Britain joined that body; and what information he has from EEC sources about the number of jobs created in the EEC as a direct result of investment from Great Britain in the same period.
§ Mr. Gregor MackenzieInformation is not readily available to indicate the total number of new jobs created in Great Britain as a direct result of investment from the rest of the EEC since the United Kingdom joined. In manufacturing industry alone, however, information collected by my Department's regional offices suggests that since January 1973 at least 82 EEC companies have decided to start or to expand operations in Great Britain expected to provide more than 8,000 jobs. A further 25 EEC companies are known to be considering industrial projects which might offer more than another 10,000 new jobs. These figures may not be complete, nor do they include jobs created as a result of investment by other countries in Great Britain related 57W to our entry into the EEC. I have no information from EEC sources on the creation of jobs in the rest of the EEC.
