§ Mr. Kenneth Clarkeasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what would be the estimated cost of abolishing the parental contribution to the student grants of (a) married women students and (b) post-graduate students if the parents lost the child allowance for those purposes at the same time.
§ Mr. Prentice:For the current academic year, the estimated net cost of abolishing the parental contribution to student awards if the child allowance for income tax were withdrawn is about £0.1 million for dependent married women students and £0.4 million for postgraduate students.
