HC Deb 20 March 1975 vol 888 cc533-4W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will take steps to notify courts under Section 23(2) of the Children and Young Persons Act 1969 of a remand centre place each time a young person is certified as being unruly and so ensure that they are not sent to prison;

(2) if he will now ensure that no child will be committed to prison because of his failure to notify the courts of the availability of remand centre places under Section 23(2) of the Children and Young Persons Act 1969.

Dr. Summerskill

Current instructions to the courts will be kept under review is more remand centres become available from the current building programme.
