HC Deb 20 March 1975 vol 888 cc488-9W
55. Mr. Biffen

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proposals he has to ensure reciprocal trading between the poultry industries of France and the United Kingdom.

Mr. Bishop:

Exports of eggs to France are prohibited because we permit the use of certain arsenical compounds in feeding stuffs for laying birds which are not used in France. We are anxious that practice in the use of feed additives in our two countries should be harmonised as soon as possible within the framework of EEC rules so that our industry can sell in the French market. Our proposals relating to arsenical additives are at present under consideration in Brussels and we expect this matter to be resolved next month.

So far as poultrymeat is concerned, intra-Community trade is governed by EEC Directive 71/118.
