HC Deb 20 March 1975 vol 888 c508W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what studies have been made regarding the financial, psychological and social benefits of care within the home for sufferers from chronic illnesses and disabilities.

Mr. Alfred Morris:

Studies which are of particular interest in this respect are: Care with Dignity"—A report by the Economist Intelligence Unit—published by the National Fund for Research into Crippling Diseases. An Attempt to Assess the Cost of Home Care": K. Dunnell and L. Ide, published in "Impairment, Disability and Handicap" for the Social Science Research Council. There are very many other studies, concerned with disablement in general or with specific disabilities, which deal with the implications—good and bad—of living at home on the one hand and residential care on the other. As my hon. Friend knows, my Department is anxious to help all disabled people who can live in their own homes to do so.
