HC Deb 20 March 1975 vol 888 cc522-3W
Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will now introduce legislation to nationalise the Bankers' Clearing House.

Mr. Dell:

No.

Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, if he will now take steps to ensure that the Bankers' Clearing House provides clearing facilities for all banks, including National Giro and the trustee savings banks.

Mr. Dell:

I understand that the Committee of London Clearing Bankers, who operate the clearing house, are prepared to consider applications from any eligible financial institutions which wish to make use of their clearing facilities. The Central Trustee Savings Bank will join the system later in the year; under a special arrangement the National Giro makes limited use of the system appropriate to its requirements.
