HC Deb 17 March 1975 vol 888 cc348-9W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will publish in the Official Report the corresponding information for Wales on the number of families and persons living around the poverty line as was given in correspondence to the hon. Member for Luton, West (Mr. Sedgemore) by the Department on 13th May 1974.

Mr. Alec Jones:

I regret that for technical reasons it is not possible without disproportionate cost to produce estimates separately for Wales.

Mr. Robin F. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many working families in Scotland are living below the supplementary benefit level.

Mr. Alec Jones:

Estimates of the number of working families in Great Britain with incomes below the supplementary benefit level are based on Family Expenditure Survey data. The number of sample cases is too small to permit any reliable estimate to be made for Scotland.

Mr. Robin F. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will publish in the Official Report the corresponding information for Scotland on the number of families and persons living around the poverty line as was given in correspondence to the hon. Member for Luton, West (Mr. Sedgemore) by the Department on 13th May 1974.

Mr. Alec Jones:

I will send my hon. Friend such estimates as can be made as soon as they are available.
